Eddie from Blyth has been down on his allotment with his greyhound, Rex.
1) First up that clean face will have to go. No self-respecting Celt would be seen without his beard.
2) Without the Romans Eddie would be feeling chilly. The Celts didn't wear hats and scarves but the Romans did.
3) What about that carrot and prize winning leek? Brought in by the Romans. In fact the idea of an allotment was created by the Romans. Poor Eddie won't even be able to disappear down there for some peace and quiet at the end of a hard day!
4) Lovely belt Eddie, shame about the buckle! The Celts kept their trousers up with a strap tied tightly around the waist.
5) Shirts and jeans are made of cotton which came from India and you guessed it - didn't arrive in Britain until the Roman army marched in.

6) Sorry Eddie - that beer glass just had to go. Although the Celts knew how to re-use glass they didn't know how to make it - they needed the Romans to teach them.
7) And as for Rex the dog? Bye Bye Rex. Greyhounds are descended from Italian dogs brought into Britain by the wives of Roman Officers.
8) The Celts may have worn shoes that looked like bags of leather. It took the Romans to invent proper walking boots with hobnails in the soles.
9) The Celts were too tough to wear vests. The Roman soldiers wore short ones made of linen.
10) Soldiers writing home from the fort at Vindolanda asked for clean socks. You wouldn't catch a Celtic warrior wearing them!
11) Oops! Underpants were most definitely a Roman invention!
So you see the Romans have done quite a lot for Eddie and the rest of us although one thing he could do without are the stinging nettles behind his garden shed. The Romans brought them to use in their cooking and as a medicine!
