| Do
you live in a town with -chester, -caster or -cester in its name,
for example Lanchester, Doncaster or Leicester? If you do, it’s
likely that there was once a Roman fort or town nearby. |

| Is
your name Amanda or Anthony, Julia or Justin, Veronica or Victor?
All these and many others come from Latin names and words. |

|
Latin
didn’t die out with the Romans. It was the language used by
the Christian monks, British and Saxon, and later by the Church. |
| It
was the language used in education and business and even today is
used to name plants and animal species, for example, humans are homo
sapiens – wise man; a wild primrose is primula veris - a true
primula. |
