Children at West Woodburn First School, Northumberland designed a Ballista made from K'NEX©. Why not have a go at building one yourself? Use the pictures to help you. Can you improve on their design?

Elastic band
A short piece of string
Step 1
Make the ballista base using these pieces.

Use these pieces to make the arm of the ballista.

Blue rod x1
Use these pieces to make the ammunition cradle.
Blue rods x2
Yellow connectors x2

Loop the elastic band through the lower yellow connector piece.

Step 3
Use these pieces to make the support for the arm of the ballista.
Yellow rods x5
Red connectors x2
Orange connectors x6
Loop the top bar through the other end of the elastic band to join the arm to the support.

Join the ballista arm onto the wheel base as shown in the picture.
Step 5
Tie the piece of string to the top of the ammunition cradle. Place your ammunition in the ballista arm. Your ballista is now ready to fire!
Step Five
PLEASE be careful with your ballista. Don't fire it at another person. The children at West Woodburn used small pellets of paper or polystyrene chippings as ammunition.
