Great British Art Debate-Rebel Nation
Rebel Nation is the third in a series of taster exhibitions which will culminate in a large exhibition
of the work of locally-born artist John Martin, at the Laing Art Gallery in 2011.
These exhibits are part of the Great British Art Debate, a national project hosted by Tate Britain, exploring
questions such as ‘What is British art?’ ‘What does ‘British’ mean to me?’ ‘Who owns all the paintings in our
local galleries?’ ‘If I make art, am I a British artist?’
These resources aim to provide an introduction to key ideas and questions relating to the Great British
Art Debate. The activities in these bags are aimed at KS 2 – 4, but can be easily adapted to suit other groups.
The bag contains a selection of gallery activities which you will easily be able to explain to your students.
The emphasis is on focused looking and thoughtful responses to the artworks.
Students will need a pencil and sketchbook, or paper.
