Art and Literacy students from secondary schools across the region were invited to the Laing and asked to work together, during the autumn term to create a visual response to the work of Mervyn Peake. Their final work has been curated by students and was displayed between 15 December 2011 - 16 January 2012 in the 'White Cube Sapce' at the Laing Art Gallery.

The students worked with professional illustrators Bethan Laker and Clare Armstrong, who gave them an insight into their creative process and taught them a range of techniques. Students from East Durham College and local artist David Gross created a sculptural tree inspired by the exhibition Lines of Flight.

Participating schools:
Tanfield School, Durham
Whickham School & Sports College, Gateshead
Bede Academy, Northumberland
Elemore Hall School, Durham
Windlestone School, Durham
Bishop Barrington, Bishop Auckland
Wolsingham School and Community College, Bishop Auckland
East Durham College, Peterlee, County Durham

Articulate was delivered as part of the Renaissance funded ‘Embedding Museums for Learning’ programme.
