Things to see and do

Described in recent years as ”one of the most impressive exhibition spaces in Britain , the Hatton Gallery has been at the heart of cultural life in the North east since the early twentieth century.
The Hatton stages a highly regarded programme of historical, modern and contemporary art exhibitions. On permanent display is Kurt Schwitters’ Merzbarn, considered by many to be one of the seminal artworks of the twentieth century.

The Hatton also has a permanent collection of over 3,500 works ranging from the Renaissance to the twentieth century and includes works by Francis Bacon, Walter Sickert, Tiburzio Passarotti, John Martin and Patrick Heron.

Facilities

Toilets, including disabled access, can be found on the ground floor of the gallery. A small shop, also located on the ground floor, sells a variety of items including art books, postcards and jewellary.

On the day

Please report to main reception desk and sign in on behalf of your group
Please let learning staff know if you are arriving by coach as it is possible to arrange a drop off point within the University Campus, through the entrance barriers on King’s Road . The coach must then leave campus and return to collect group.
