Monkwearmouth Station Museum will be closed between 24 December 2011 to 9 January 2012 inclusive. If you have a school related enquiry please email sunderlandlearning@twmuseums.org.uk. The Learning Team will respond to your email as soon as possible, however there may be a small delay due to staff capacity over the festive season.
Things to see and do
The Museum looks at the impact that travel and transport has had upon the lives of people in the region from evacuation during World War II to a trip to Wembley for the FA cup final. AV displays include a day in the life of the Victorian station and Seaside holidays. Amongst the exhibits on display we have transport toys, bicycles and even a full size bus cab.

Facilities
The new sloping access ramp allows all visitors to access the building through the same entrance.
The learning rooms on the first floor which can be reached via a platform lift or stairs. Both learning rooms can be booked for workshops and packed lunches. The rooms are equipped with tables and chairs.
Accessible toilets are available on both floors and baby changing facilities are available on the ground floor.
A small Refreshment room with a drinks machine is a pleasant place for visitors to eat their packed lunches.
On the day
On arrival at the Museum groups should sign in at the reception desk. There is a small car park is available directly in front of the Museum with space for three vehicles. There are other parking spaces nearby at St Mary’s Way Car Park, across Wearmouth Bridge and at St Peter’s Metro station. There is a drop off and collection point for coaches in the lay-by on North Bridge Street.
