Christmas Opening

South Shields Museum & Art Gallery will be closed between 19 December 2011 to 8 January 2012 inclusive. If you have a school related enquiry please email stlearning@twmuseums.org.uk. The Learning Team will respond to your email as soon as possible, however there may be a small delay due to staff capacity over the festive season.

 

Things to see and do

The fascinating Tales of South Tyneside and Changing Faces galleries delve into the millennia of history that surrounds South Tyneside including Victorian life, World War II and seaside holidays in the past.
 

Creature Corner brings the wider world to South Shields Museum by housing a variety of spiders and reptiles, including Mick the Burmese python while the first floor Art Adventure gallery exhibits an array of artworks with a number of interactive displays.

Due to health and safety, we highly recommend that group leaders conduct preliminary visits.

Facilities

Toilets, including accessible facilities, can be found on the ground and first floors.

Groups are able to pre-book the spacious Learning Room as a storage and / or lunch room; please contact the Learning Team if you would like to book this facility.

South Shields Museum’s café, located in the Changing Faces gallery, sells hot and cold drinks and a variety of light snacks.

A wide range of affordable books, souvenirs and confectionary can be purchased from the museum gift shop.

On the day

Arrival times are discussed with the Learning Team at the point of booking.

On arrival, we ask group leaders to use South Shields Museums’ main entrance on Ocean Road which leads to the museum shop where groups must be registered.

Packed lunches must be arranged, by the group, prior to arrival.
