Local Skills – Campaign! Make an Impact

    Monday 5 September 2011 to Friday 20 July 2012

KS1, KS2, KS3 - Local studies, History, Literacy, Self others & the wider world

For over 100 years the shipyards were the heart of the local economy and continued even as the coal mines closed.  When the closure of the yards was threatened, the community rose in response and organised a series of campaigns.  In this session the children find out how the local people organised the 1993 campaign to save the shipbuilding yard, Swan Hunters.  The pupils explore the new gallery zone, Launch Place, find out about the different voices of the Life for Swans campaign using archive material and test their own model-making skills building a ship’s hull.  This community campaign provides inspiration for challenging change.

This two hour workshop can accomodate 32 children.

    £75.00
