Sustainability – more than just renewable energy
Monday 14 November 2011 to Friday 20 July 2012
KS4 - Science
A dynamic and energetic workshop that sees pupils venturing out into the museum itself, this workshop focuses on the application of sustainability and proves there’s more to it than just renewable energy.
Pupils look at artifacts from cultures around the world, working out just how sustainable is it to create something like a shark-tooth sword, before whisking off to see the endangered animals in the Living Planet gallery and brainstorm ways to stop their decline. Finally we look at examples of sustainability within the North East itself using the Natural Northumbria Gallery and the problems facing different parts of the regions before finishing with a debate on a current sustainability problem facing the North East.
This workshop makes a perfect finish to the subjects of sustainability and the environment and is a fun way for pupils to apply what they’ve learned to real world issues.
