Left, right, left, right, quick march! The new recruits arrive at the fort to practice their marching and drill before finding out about a soldier’s kit and armour. An adult volunteer from the group is transformed into a Roman soldier as the kit is put on and the archaeological evidence on display in the gallery is discussed with the children.
A carousel of activities follows:
the children can try on the replica Roman armour and kit,
develop their physical skills in combat-training armed with a shield and spear,
prepare for an army inspection and learn the military oath.
Certificates will be awarded.
This workshop runs for 1.25 - 1.5 hours and can accomodate a maximum of 32 children.
