Segedunum events leaflet

Segedunum Roman Fort, Baths & Museum in Wallsend is gearing up for an action-packed summer which will feature live animals, fearsome gladiators and much more.

The fun starts on Tuesday 26 July, when Segedunum’s World Heritage Day will include the chance to meet live animals from around the world, face-painting and animal masks for younger visitors, plus guided tours of the new display Strong Place, which reveals how the site around Segedunum has been shaped over the past 2,000 years.

Other highlights include a Civil War re-enactment on Sunday 7 August, when the site will be brought to life by Cavaliers, who will display the fascinating weapons and equipment of the English Civil War.

On Sunday 14 August, visitors to Segedunum will be able to meet Thanos, a fearsome gladiator. Younger visitors can join in with his Gladiator School to see if they measure up to Thanos’s tough standards!

And on Saturday 20 August, the Romans will once again take over the Fort, as Colchester Roman Society descends on Segedunum to protect the Fort from barbarian attack!

Geoff Woodward, Manager of North Tyneside Museums, says:

“As well as some exciting re-enactment events, we’ll also be holding all sorts of family activities over the summer, from drumming masterclasses to hands-on Roman crafts.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming as many people as possible to the fort this summer!”
