Cohors Quinta Gallorum

19 - 20 Sep

Roman soldier from Cohors Quinta Gallorum

Roman soldier from Cohors Quinta Gallorum

Quinta Roman re-enactment group will be recreating military and civilian life on the north-western frontier of the Roman Empire in the 3rd century AD.  Quinta are based on a Roman auxiliary unit - Hadrian’s Wall and its forts were built by the Roman legions but it was the auxiliary units that garrisoned the forts.  Segedunum was garrisoned by the fourth cohort of Lingones, originally raised in the province of Germania Superior, today part of eastern France, in the third and fourth centuries.   Quinta’s home base is the fort of Arbeia in South Shields.  The group will display authentic style costumes, armour weapons and civilian equipment based upon original artefacts and archaeological research.

Quinta will be at Segedunum from 11am until 4pm.
