Sit Down: Seating for Kids

Sit Down: Seating for Kids

A new exhibition exploring the world of children’s chairs has arrived at the Shipley Art Gallery in Gateshead, taking visitors on a journey to find a chair which is ‘just right’ – just like Goldilocks.

Sit Down: Seating for Kids spans 350 years and explores the different purposes behind children’s chairs as well as the quirky and fun designs which make them so special.

Taking the classic children's tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears as a starting point, the exhibition invites visitors to consider just what makes the perfect seat. Is it comfort? Style? Ease of use?

Sit Down features many examples of seating made for children, ranging from school chairs to armchairs, saddles to swings, highchairs to potties.

There is a wide range of family fun activities running alongside the exhibition. Details can be found on the Shipley homepage or you can download your Sit Down: Seating for Kids family fun leaflet here.

The exhibition is on display at the Shipley Art Gallery until 5 June 2011. Free entry.

Sit Down: Seating for Kids is a touring exhibition from the V&A Museum of Childhood.
