Studio ceramics from the Henry Rothschild Collection

The Shipley Art Gallery is planning a new resource to make a unique collection of studio ceramics accessible to the public.

The Henry Rothschild Collection is one of the most important collections of 20th century studio ceramics in the UK. The collection is a testament to Henry Rothschild's passion for ceramics and his enthusiasm for discovering outstanding works made by highly skilled craftspeople.

The proposed Henry Rothschild Study Centre will provide daily public access to the whole collection for the first time. Plans are being made for interpretation to include a database and opportunities for finding out more about the collector, the objects and the makers.

The new Study Centre would ensure that this nationally significant collection remains intact and available to future generations in a public collection in the North East.

If you would like to contribute ideas to help shape the development of the Study Centre please contact the Shipley on 0191 4771495 or email Virginia Wilkinson at virginia.wilkinson@twmuseums.org.uk.
