Shipley welcomes star of London Fashion Week
The Shipley Art Gallery in Gateshead will welcome a star of London Fashion Week this Friday as part of Shipley Lates, an after hours experience offering talks, hands on activities, special displays and a bar.
Accessories guru Fred Butler will be a special guest at the event on 30 September and will talk about her work and inspiration as well as help visitors to create their own fashionable accessories in a special workshop. Fred is well known for her work designing for artists such as Patrick Wolf, Beth Ditto and the flamboyant Lady Gaga. She recently showed her Spring/Summer 2012 collection at London Fashion Week and has received critical acclaim for her vibrant and colourful work.
Amy Barker, curator of the Shipley Art Gallery says:
“I am very excited to welcome Fred Butler to the Shipley – her work is instantly recognisable and has been worn by a whole host of stars synonymous with high fashion. It is a fantastic opportunity for visitors to talk to her and learn how to create their own fashion accessories in her specially designed workshop.”
Also speaking at the event will be jewellery designer Nora Fok whose work can currently be seen on display at the Shipley in the exhibition Cloud Nylon: The Jewellery of Nora Fok. Nora will speak about her work and give a demonstration of how she creates her intricate designs from coloured nylon.
In addition, there will be a special display of 20th century studio jewellery from the Shipley’s collection especially for the evening. These pieces form part of the contemporary craft collection and are examples of makers pushing the boundaries of jewellery practice as Nora and Fred are doing today.
Visitors will also be able to try their hand at making their own paper jewellery inspired by designer Dame Wendy Ramshaw.
A DJ will provide a soundtrack to the evening and as usual the Shipley’s pay bar will be available. Pet Lamb Patisserie will also be on hand selling their delectable treats with a range of specially designed fashion cupcakes on offer.
Shipley Lates is supported by IKEA Gateshead.
Entry to Shipley Lates is £3. Tickets are available to buy from the Shipley shop or online by clicking here. A limited number of tickets will be available on the door. Please note due to high demand tickets available on the door may be limited. Places at the making activity with Fred Butler (free) are also limited.
