This evening we celebrate the Shipley’s recently purchased ceramic work by Barnaby Barford and a new ceramic commission for the Gallery from Paul Scott. Both artists subvert traditional approaches to everyday ceramics, producing contemporary, quirky and spectacular results.
Barnaby Barford uses traditional mass-produced or antique figurines and re-uses them, creating amusing, sinister and satirical sculptures reflecting society today. He will discuss his work and show his film Damaged Goods.
Paul Scott is known internationally for his ceramics which combine traditional prints with subversive statements. He is currently working on a commission for the Shipley exploring the regeneration of Gateshead. He will talk about this project and the stories he has discovered along the way.
