Fabric of a Nation: textiles and identity in modern Ghana
Saturday 28 June to Sunday 2 NovemberThis British Museum exhibition features a wide variety of the gorgeous printed cloths worn in Ghana, many of them actually produced in Manchester!
Events and Activities:
Friday 25 July
Shipley Lates: China
The second Shipley Lates event will be held in July, when the Shipley will be hosting 'Out of China', an exhibition of Felicity Aylieff's monumental pots made and decorated during her stay in China. The Chinese theme will also echo other events in the region based around the Bejing Olympics.
DJ Lucasz Haras will present his project inspired by nature, which includes raw sound and music tracks from a big variety of traditional Chinese music instruments, Jungle music, Electronic, Ambient and Dub. Tracks recorded allow an infinite variety of combinations, adjusting to different moods and atmospheres.
Artist Lip Lee will lead the making of Chinese lanterns to take away and light your gardens at the end of the evening.
There will also be a choice of artist's talks and a pay bar will be available.

Printing Patterns
Based on the current display of wax-printed textiles, celebrating 50 years of Ghana’s independence. Come and join textile artist, Kathy Richards for some fabric fun.

A Way with Wax
Frances Kaey will be working with wax resist printing methods in a colourful and vibrant drop-in day for families.

Talk: Rev. Jim Craig, Chaplain for the Arts
The Reverend Jim Craig will talk about his role as Chaplain for the Arts in Gateshead and the work he does with the local community.
