Shoes - The Agony and the Ecstacy

Shoes, 1795
Leather
This item is on display in the fashion section of the exhibition.
These pale blue kid leather shoes owned by Frances Forster of Berwick upon Tweed have the needlepoint toe and small 'Italian' heel fashionable in the late 1790s. Sadly the black ink stripes have now faded, and the pleated silk rosette only adorns one of the pair, but it would have been a very stylish shoe when new.
