This D.M. is made of breathable imitation leather called Lorica. Vegetarian shoes use it as an effective and morally acceptable alternative to leather. Dr Maertens developed his Air Wear soles in Germany in the late 1940s. The classic Doc Marten, as we now know it, was created by the English firm of R. Griggs in 1960.
