Leather, wood and metal

These ice-skates date from the 1920s. Skating has been for a long time a means of travel in countries with cold climates. The first skates were made of animal bones. In the 17th century the Dutch started to use wooden skates with metal blades. By the late 19th century skating had become not only a means of travel but also a well established sport.
