South Shields Museum & Art Gallery is opening its display cases to people from across Tyne & Wear as its summer exhibition, Gotta Have It! You and Your Collections goes on show.

The exhibition, which runs from Saturday 18 July until 31 October, explores the hobby of collecting and features collections from across Tyne & Wear. Accompanying each collection is the story of how and why the collection was built up, giving visitors a rare insight into the collector’s world.

The collections on show include everything from egg cups to Elvis memorabilia, and Russian dolls to bookmarks. Together, the collections form a bright and colourful tribute to the art of collecting.
