Full Steam Ahead this Half Term at Stephenson Railway
It’s ‘all aboard; away we go’ at Stephenson Railway Museum this February half term, when passenger rides are back for good!
On Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesday during the February holidays, visitors of all ages can head to the museum to experience the gentle trundle of a vintage train ride. The heritage diesel engine will be hauling the passenger carriages following a successful stint on the rails over Christmas.
In addition to weekend rail rides, the museum is open every day over the holidays, and is a treasure chest of trains, tracks and fun facts for enthusiasts big and small! A chance to explore everything from steam engines of yesteryear to the famous trains of your favourite picture books, it’s one of the North East’s hidden gems for a free family day out.
On Wednesday 17 February there will also be a special activity when children of all ages will be invited to help create a giant model train from junk materials.
Museum Manager Geoff Woodward said: “I’m delighted that following the installation of new track at Percy Main station we are able to offer our popular passenger service again. We’re opening especially for the February holidays as the train rides are always a big draw – especially for families looking to do something different!”
Entry to Stephenson Railway Museum is free, and train rides cost £2 for adults, £1 for concessions. For more information call (0191) 200 7146, or find the Museum just two minutes from Silverlink Retail Park in North Shields.
