Timeline Photos On this day in 1938 The Mallard, the fastest steam driven train on the planet, was built by LNER @[123156457729836:274:Doncaster Works].
Last month the @[109603862391201:274:LNER Class A4 4468 Mallard] was on display with all five of its sister A4 engines, and together they drew more than 100,000 visitors from as far as the United States and China to the @[7774637229:274:National Railway Museum].
The Mallard continues to be the holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives at 125.88 mph.
