Lowry is one of this country’s best known artists, famous for his industrial scenes. It is less well known that he had a special love for North East England, and that Sunderland became almost a second home for him. From his first visits to Berwick-on-Tweed in the 1930s, to his lengthy stays at the Seaburn Hotel in his later years, the region provided him with a rich source of inspiration for his work.
