Rocking Horse - One of the 10 objects chosen for Wear

A History of the World is a unique partnership between the British Museum, the BBC and museums across the UK.

It celebrates objects which have a story to tell. After all, even the most ordinary things can have the most extraordinary stories.

Members of the public will be able to celebrate A History of the World this half-term on Monday 15 February at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens (10am-4pm) where there will be the opportunity to upload their own objects to the British Museum's website via their local site.

As well as uploading objects onto the A History of the World website, there will be a wide range of enjoyable activities for all ages taking place in the Museum.

Visitors can enjoy everything from family craft activities and live music to meeting the curators who look after some of the objects selected for the BBC Tyne region. Visitors will also be able to find out how to look after their family treasures (what to do, and what not to do), and enjoy hands-on exploration of real archaeological finds from prehistoric times to the 20th century.

Jonathan Miles will also be broadcasting his mid-morning show live from the event.See www.bbc.co.uk/wear for more information.

The BBCs local websites across the country have partnered with their local museums. Together, they have produced a list of 10 objects that tell A History of the World for each area.
