Staff at Barclays Wealth have undertaken an audit of a different kind in a unique team-building and skills development day at Newcastle’s Discovery Museum.

Employees at the leading global wealth manager headed out of the office to take on an entirely different day at work. They worked closely with staff at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums to audit and record objects in the Tyneside Challenge gallery including a model of RMS Mauretania from 1907 and some of the world’s oldest electric lamps.

Barclays Wealth, a business partner of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, arranged the Connecting through Culture Team Challenge day to coincide with Make a Difference Day - Barclays biggest driver of employee volunteering.

Barclays staff worked with the Curatorial team and the Documentation team to complete a full audit of the gallery, which ensures that the current data is up to date and that system of recording the Museum’s collections is effective and accurate.

Andrew Miller at Barclays Wealth commented:

“This is a great example of Barclays staff working with cultural sector, for the benefit of the community.”

These day-long Connecting through Culture challenges are designed to give TWAM’s business partners an opportunity to work as a team and gain experiences outside of their normal working environment. The challenges also assist TWAM venues and staff to complete important tasks that have a great impact on its service to the public.

Martin Williams, principal development and trading manager at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums said:

“These team challenges are a huge benefit to our business partners and also our museums and galleries. They enable our business partners to learn new skills, gain knowledge of a new sector and work together as a team.

“This in turn develops the North East’s cultural scene by enhancing the experience of our visitors through the essential work that they complete.”

Barclays Wealth has been able to take part in this Team Challenge as part of their membership of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums’ business partnership Connecting through Culture.
