Connecting Through Culture Summer Party 2011
Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens was the magical setting for this year’s Connecting Through Culture summer party.
The Winter Gardens was decked out with fairy lights as guests enjoyed a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and viewed the Museum’s current exhibition, The Truth About Faeries.
Speakers included Iain Watson, Director of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums and John Mowbray who is Director of Corporate Affairs at Northumbrian Water and newly elected President of the North East Chamber of Commerce.
Iain Watson says:
“Connecting Through Culture, our business partnership scheme is in its 20th year and continues to provide vital support to so much of the work that Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums does, including our learning and outreach programmes.
“In the past year, our business partners have supported the fantastic John Martin exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery and the Culture Shock digital storytelling project amongst others, and the summer party is an ideal time to celebrate the successes of the scheme.”
John Mowbray, Director of Corporate Affairs at Northumbrian Water and President of the North East Chamber of Commerce, said:
“Partnership was one of my key themes when I was elected as President of the North East Chamber of Commerce and the Business Partners scheme with Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums is a perfect example of how a partnership should work with each partner understanding what the other wants.
“Northumbrian Water has worked with them over many years with great benefits for both parties as well as the wider community. The Museum & Winter Gardens itself is a great example with over 3.5 million visitors since it opened 10 years ago”
Catering for the event was provided by Terry Laybourne’s new venture the Broad Chare Pub, offering guests quintessential English fayre including scotch eggs, pork pies and pork crackling.
The Connecting through Culture scheme offers businesses the opportunity to work in partnership with Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, which manages 12 venues in the North East.
