Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Connecting through Culture.

2011 has been another fantastic year for Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums. Highlights included the fantastic John Martin: Apocalypse exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery in the spring which you can now see at the Tate Britain, Pharaoh: King of Egypt in the summer at the Great North Museum which was the largest UK loan of Egyptian artefacts ever undertaken by the British Museum, and the opening of the newly restored Wagon Shed and Railways Wagons at Monkwearmouth Station Museum in the autumn/winter.

All three of these projects benefited from generous support from our business partners so thank you for helping us to continue providing world-class services to the people of the North East and those who visit our region.

The programme for 2012 is equally tantalising with treats including the return to the Laing Art Gallery in the New Year of Sting’s commissioned painting 'Northern City Renaissance, Newcastle, England' (2004-2008) which will form the centrepiece of an exhibition depicting the Tyne’s industrial shipbuilding and coalmining history, an exhibition of illustrations by national treasure Quentin Blake also at the Laing Art Gallery in the summer, and an array of exhibitions and activities across a number of our venues to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics.

2012 will also be an exciting year for Connecting through Culture with plans to present business partners with a new and improved membership scheme. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and ideas, either in person or via the e-survey, to help shape this refresh. We look forward to sharing the new scheme with you all in early spring time.
