During this time we ask you to use our old entrance which is 50m along the side of the building, behind the Challenger 2 tank.

If you need assistance, please call the Museum and we will be able to provide a solution for you - 0191 232 6789.

There is a small lift available at this entrance.

Additional Information

Tyne & Wear Archives Service is a member of CARN (the County Archive Research Network). Anyone wishing to use the Archives will require a valid readers' ticket [20kb, PDF]

Please read our Frequently Asked Questions before visiting. Visitors arriving by car are advised to use Grainger Town multi-storey car park.

Please bring a pencil for taking notes, as we ask you not to use pens while in the searchroom (even if you are using microfilm, or don't have any original documents on your desk). For security reasons, bags are not allowed in the searchroom, but lockers are provided (free) for secure storage of your belongings. Please read our full searchroom rules [21kb, PDF] for further information.

If you have any special needs please mention them when booking. We have two microfilm readers that provide electronic winding and additional space around them that may be pre-specified if required. We also have a volunteer mentor scheme that can provide extra help, if needed, to access the archives service.
