Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums' recruiting to Development Trust Board

08 January 2021

Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM) is looking to recruit a Chair and two new trustees for the Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums Development Trust. The Trust (established 2010) is an energetic charity which fundraises from individuals, trusts, foundations and businesses to support Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM) in delivering its mission of making a difference in people‘s lives.

TWAM has a special reputation for its work with children and young people and for reaching parts of the community that other cultural organisations might not reach. With 22 miles door to door of innovation, art, history and science our 200 staff and 500 volunteers use a collection of over 1 million museum objects and 20km of archives to deliver this work.

The new Chair will help share the message of TWAM’s value and importance with businesses, individuals and communities and will help raise the essential funding to match our support from four local authorities, Newcastle University and Arts Council England. Trustees will support the Chair, and the TWAM fundraising team, in networking and developing links across the region, nationally and with our broader supporter base.

The Trust is committed to working with as wide a range of people in the north east and beyond as possible. We believe that we need a diverse board to ensure that our activity and our audiences are as diverse as they can be. We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and with a range of skills and will provide appointed Trustees with the necessary support to fulfil their role. We also seek to create an environment where divergent views are welcomed and individuals feel confident sharing their ideas.

Both Chair and Trustees will need a love of art, culture and heritage and a belief in the power of culture to change lives.

If you would like to get involved with this dynamic fundraising trust as either Chair or a Trustee you can download the recruitment pack here and download our Equality and Monitoring Form (which you will also need to complete and submit with your application) here.

If you would like an informal discussion about these roles contact Iain.watson@twmuseums.org.uk or current trustee james.garbutt@rathbones.com.

Closing date for applications is Friday 29 January.

Please be advised interviews for this position are scheduled to take place via Zoom on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 February.
