We are Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums. Door to door we are 22 miles of innovation, art, history and science packed into 4 museums, 3 art galleries, 2 Roman Forts and 1 Archive.
We are the people we welcome. We are the stories we share. We are the places we come from. We are the collections we care for. We are the story keepers of the North East. We reach out to people, provide safe spaces where communities can explore their stories, and create new experiences. We can only do this with your support.
Your support means we will continue to be inspiring through arts, culture and heritage in the North East. You are at the heart of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums.
We are the people we welcome
We improve the lives of 1.3 million visitors each year, by helping people to understand the world around them. We strive to remove barriers to arts culture and heritage by offering a sanctuary, a safe place to recharge, to reflect and to relax. We are memory makers: we create experiences that provoke important conversations. We build curiosity in the minds of the future. We work to ensure all generations, from our toddler take overs to our dementia friendly workshops, can access and enjoy the benefits of culture on their doorstep.
We are the stories we share
We connect to and share stories from our diverse communities and give those without a voice a way to articulate and connect with their own story. We continuously collect and care for the stories that shape us as individuals and underpin our region. We create opportunities to explore & enjoy new experiences by using new technology to share with audiences both from the region and the world.
We are the places we come from
We are a destination for all. Shaped by our natural, industrial and social landscape our collections are firmly rooted in our locality, yet nationally and internationally important. Our collections reflect how the pioneering inventions of the North East have changed the world. Through international partnerships we bring stories from across the globe to the people of Tyne and Wear, helping us to find ourselves in our shared history.
We are the collections we care for
We care for your heritage. We hold the memories of those who came before us and collect the stories for those who will come after. We look after unique locations and the creations of Northern inventors which shaped our world today. We applaud and celebrate North Eastern innovation that ignites the imaginations of future generations.
You are the heart of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums.
With your support we will
· Reach more people, breaking down barriers to culture to provide safe spaces where all communities can explore their stories.
· Collect your memories to record the times we live in.
· Care for and protect your heritage.
· Share the creative influence of the North East with the world around us.
Public funding amounts to less than half of our annual expenditure - 60% of the activities which take place across our venues are funded by trusts and foundations, business partners and, principally, by the generosity of donors. Support us today.
Giving directly from your salary is easy and tax effective
When you donate through the Payroll Giving, you can quickly and easily support arts, culture and heritage in the North East. Your donation is taken from your pay before tax is deducted, which means you save and even small donations go further.
For example, if you agree to give £10 a month from your gross salary. This regular gift will actually only cost you £8 (at the 20% basic rate of tax) or £6 (at the 40% rate of tax) yet Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums will still get the full £10, because HMRC will make up the difference.
If you would like to register for Payroll Giving and donate to Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, please follow these simple steps:
- Check with your employer that they offer payroll giving scheme to their staff.
- Alternatively, search for your employer on the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) register or call their helpline on 03000 123 000 and they can check for you.
- If your employer is not already contracted with this scheme, they can register for free by downloading an application pack from the CAF website or telephoning 03000 123 000.
Once your employer is contracted, all you need to do is complete a CAF Donor Instruction Form (available from the CAF website) and give it to your employer. If you would like to chat through your donation then please contact Catherine Kirkham Payroll Giving Team.
Our galleries, museums, and heritage sites hold a special place in people’s hearts and memories. Once your family have been provided for, consider including a bequest to a venue which has meant a lot to you and your family.
Help us to secure the future of the venues and collections you and your family are passionate about. Leaving a gift in your will to Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums will help us to protect the stories of the North East for the future.
Any gift, large or small, makes a real and lasting difference to the people that we work with.
We’re here to help and can answer any questions you may have regarding legacy giving.
If you are interested in discussing a donation or have any questions at all, please contact Catherine Kirkham via Email.
